Senior Infants and Power Hour

For the last 6 weeks Senior Infants have started each day with a "Power Hour" session. They are divided into 5 groups and each group works with one adult for 10 minutes. I introduce them to a new book and we read it together.

The children then read this book with Mum and Dad that night and the following day they re-read the book with Amanda. She asks them questions about what they have read and they discuss the story.

Ms Bates works on Jolly phonics and plays games based on the sounds children have learnt.

Mr Fahy helps them to write stories in their copies

Ms Dunne works on oral language work and sometimes brings them to the library for this so the children don't have to worry about being noisy.

Its busy, but the children seem to be really enjoying it. Power Hour will finish Friday June 1st.

Book Week 2012

Here are some highlights of our book week so far.

The renowned author Oisin Mc Gann visited our school and discussed one of his novels "Small Giants" with some 6th class children.

He also gave 3 dynamic and highly entertaining workshops in 4th class and in the two 3rd class classrooms. On the next day world famous author Sarah Webb wowed 5th and 6th class with stories of her life, how she started writing , advice for children who would like to become authors and anecdotes about famous children's authors that she has met. She signed books for the children and gave away lots of signed book marks.

Mr Sheehy ran a wonderful book fair giving children the opportunity to browse through exciting attractive books and the chance to purchase their favourites

Our Writing

We picked something we were really interested in. We took photos or found pictures on google images. We wrote about our pictures. Then we typed our stories on the computer. We hope you enjoy them!

Liverpool F.C.

Liverpool F.C.

This is the Liverpool crest for the team.  It has 5 stars. The Liverpool motto is “you’ll never walk alone”.

The manager of the Liverpool team is Kenny Daglish. Their best player is Steven Gerrard.

I like Andy Carroll as well.

This player’s name is Fernando Torres. He is one of the best footballers.  He is from Spain.  He used to play with Liverpool but now he plays with Chelsea.

Hip Hop Dancing

Hip Hop Dancing

When my dad was 17 he liked to do hip hop.  My dad could do flips and when he did flip overs he could land on his legs.

One day I saw a man doing flips on the street in Dublin.  Lots of people were looking at him. He and his friend were good dancers.

This is me doing hip hop in Ms Carrig’s room.  I am learning hip hop in Rush N.S.  I go to classes on Wednesdays.
